Depending on the saw, the placement of the motor on RT saws may allow for more flexibility in adding other components (e.g.Adjustments with RT may be more ergonomically comfortable for some.Right tilt allows the fence's measurement scale to remain accurate when the blade is tilted or possibly with a dado setup.Tilted-blade cuts aren't done all that often, so it's not the most important issue in the table saw world. If it's a matter of pride for you, and you can't make up your mind, or if you think you want a left tilting saw (as I did) wait for the PM66 or the old iron project. If it was in a cabinet shop, it's been run hard and will look like it has. Even if he's an active woodworker, he'll never use it up. A home shop guy will never put enough hours on a big saw to wear it out, and because it's his centerpiece, he'll lavish care on it. If it's not, there's nothing wrong with buying some other guy's Delta, wherever it was built so long as it cuts true. If that's you, hold out because that happens. The guys who have lucked into them for $350 will usually have to put some money or effort into the saw. I promise, as soon as you buy that thing, someone will offer a PM66 or General for the same dough or less and you will think "Damn." Who cares? It's a lifetime buy so get something you like, but if you want a saw, the longer you wait, the less wood you cut. For a little more, you can buy a really terrific saw. For $750 it's a lot of saw, and will probably be left tilt.ĭelta still sells right tilt saws as far as I know, but who buys them? Anyway, I stand with the grab it for $750-1000 crowd regardless which way it tilts if, but only if, it's in great shape, has all it's accessories and comes with a good blade. Four years old it has to be made in Taiwan. If it's the white special edition, made in USA and a right tilt, it isn't four years old. For most of us a good used Unisaw is just fine. Used, I'd look for a PM66 since there are a lot of them out there and they're nice, or maybe you go all the way and buy an old Oliver or Northfield or something like that, but it's really unnecessary. If it were me going new, I think I'd look at the Sawstop, but it's alot of money. If you're buying a new cabinet saw for the home shop, you have more choices than ever. You'd spend $2000.00 "roughly" for a like and kind "new saw. Offer him $200.00 more and you still have a good deal, UNLESS there's something wrong, broken, bent, warped, etc that is not "showing up / being told to you " about the saw.
DELTA UNISAW PLATINUM EDITION FULL
There is a whole $hit pot full of good information on this site, there is also a $hit pot full of blow hard "know it all's " who don't know $hit about wood, wood working and wood working tools, so one has to use a filter on "who's advise " to take. Table saws blades chip on the down side of the cut, unless the saw is equiped with a scoring blade, do some research about that.Īnd Tim what was wrong with that statement? 25 years ago I would have loved to have some one with my type of experience, and say Smalser's, Ledger's, KC8's sorry KC I don't have your handle down pat, Lefty 8's, Flemming's, etc, collective knowledge when I purchased my equipment. By the way, what's the advantage of right tilt saws? Well, I get the part about left-tilt potentially being safer, but the stuff about "good side up" miters, etc. Last edited by Paul Girouard 10-04-2007 at 02:25 PM. There, I added more words and a few comma's, can you understand it now TimH ? WTF a guy has to spell every word Just right, add words, distractors, more friggin info than is neccessary / needed, so you can figger out a simple statement? You guys just buying in, becoming wood workers, starting out, etc, have a great resourse here on the forum, to get feed back/ advise that was NOT avaiable, 20 years ago, like it is here on WBF. Or I finally figured out what to buy and from who to buy it. Today the overall mark is much better, IMO.
used to be the "Great tool price " and no middle ground, down to not so cheap crap that most folks just get fustrated trying to make work. Most company now offer both R and L tilt, fences are way better and the over all price has come down in a way.
DELTA UNISAW PLATINUM EDITION PLUS
Some great progress has been made in woodworking tools in the 30 plus years I've been around it. Those jetlocks where OK eh Lefty BUT the beisemeyer just that much better than a jetlock was. Bark if you don't know "why you need" a left tilt saw, that saw will be fine for you, the price is right IF the motor is OK, heck it's a Ok price even if the motor is dead.
